Oh C'mon.....Ice fishing in Berlin???

I had dinner with Michael from the hostel who was also in my room. Went to a Vietnamese / Sushi restaurant (it’s bizarrely a common combination) which was ok. I distinctly remember saying that I needed a quiet night as I was exhausted after doing the “free” walking tour (4 hours!) and backing this straight up with the Pergamon museum. It was looking promising as we headed back to the hostel after 10pm and had another quiet beer.

There were quite a few people drinking back at the hostel that night. The barman was as usual trying to tune the ladies – he was very smooth I’ll admit and quite knowledgeable on a vast range of topics. Anyway, two Swedish girls had had enough of him and sat next to us. They had a few beers under their belt and were wanting to head out somewhere. The barman had clued them up on a few places to go out late on a Monday night. It took little convincing to get us to join them. They were vague on details about how to get there but I was all over it. Maddie and Tess (the Swedish sisters), Beth (American) and the two of us took the subway east, enduring Maddie trying to pronounce Schlesische the whole way. It was going to be any entertaining and eventful night.

The first place on the list was the designated pre-drinks venue (Club de xxxxxx???, Schlesische Str). It was a rather too-cool-for-skool venue right on the water. No frills but a great late night location, including a floating pontoon which you could sit and drink on. The main bar and DJ were jammed into a tiny space with barely enough dance floor space between them to do any ice fishing.

After a few drinks on the pontoon overlooking the water we decided to check out the main club venue across the river (Shaling). It was completely dead! An open air venue with sand on the ground, thatched covered areas and a bath tub. We made good use of the bath tub for one drink and got the hell out of there back to the previous place.

By this stage things were getting a little messy. By 4am we were all ready to go home. Michael had put in ground work to no avail and Maddie was pissed and had the hiccups and was trying to skull beers upside-down and hold her breathe (not at the same time) to get rid of them (unsuccessfully). Kebabs and pizza before getting the train – Burgermeister was closed (damn, quality burger from a converted toilet under the Schlesishe railway station). When we got to the train station, there was a French guy trying to talk to u about a movie called Paris Texas and a man trying to find his wife who was apparently everywhere. His English wasn’t strong which left Maddie rolling on the ground in hysterics. Back at 5am. So much for a quiet night.

The title derives from the Swedish overuse of “Oh C’mon” and the ice fishing dance move that was taught to Michael and myself at the train station.
