Noto, Sicily, Italy

Continued on to Noto with the German girls for the night. It is only 30 minutes from Siracusa by train, much of it up hill. The train station is located at the foot of the town so it is a hell of a hike up to the hostel where we were staying. That said, the view was something else. Worth the trek up the steep laneways and the 135 steps at the end (give or take two steps).

You can see most of the town in a couple of hours. It’s probably a good ½ day to ¾ day trip from Siracusa. But I think half of the enjoyment of such a sleepy town is just doing nothing, watching the locals go about their lazy afternoons and evening whilst having a coffee and a granite alle mandorla (much more expensive than gelati but something different. I liked it. A sweet almond ice that melts and turns into a slurpy at the end. Straw provided in anticipation of serious melting.).

Dinner was….you guessed it, pizza. The more interesting aspects was the pizza box of complimentary chips that came with our pizzas (wtf???) and the wine I bought and largely drank myself. At €11 for the bottle, this is considered pricey. When you compare this to the enoteca we stuck our heads into (it was dry…..had run out of wine!) where you can buy vino for €2.00 / L, I was forking out seven times that. It was damn good and worth every euro cent (see photo). Wasn’t disappointed the girls weren’t in the mood to drink that night. I was….and did!

Jesus…..just about had a heart attack. Thought I saw a pizza come out of the kitchen (in the restaurant I am currently in) with pineapple on it! Pretty sure it is potato instead. Dear god…..have just been picked up off of the floor. It’s pineapple. It’s a Hawaiian pizza….in Italy! I’m outta here.

"Why you take a photo of me?"

Just realised they are the same guys from a photo earlier! Looks like they made a new friend.
