What's all the fuss about?..........Tangalle, Sri Lanka

I honestly don't know why Tangalle is promoted as a great destination. It is a beach holiday destination where you can't swim in any of the beaches due to treacherous currents and undertows. All you can do is lie on the beach (only during peak season as in the off season the tides are so high that they consume all of the sand) and look at the water. There may be the odd small beach which is swimmable between Dec-Feb....maybe. I just don't get the attraction. The area is quite well known for its turtle population that lay eggs on many of the beaches in the surrounding area but this is no different to the rest of the south coast. And the turtle watching tours in the evening are of questionable ethical standards, with many failing to use red light, stop visitors from using flash photography and from actually touching the stressed creatures. Appalling. Here are a few snaps of the area but don't bother stopping here for mine.
